Eessõna asemel
Venekeelne ulme on rikas. Eelmised minu koostatud kogumikud olid pühendatud armastusele Maa vastu. Need olid helged ja kohati paatoslikudki, mis on ka mõistetav, sest sisaldasid jutte enamjaolt ajastust, kus paatosest nõretav stiil oli normiks. Vastukaaluks otsustasin koostada antoloogia, mis näitaks inimesi ka teisest küljest. Peale mõne erandi koosneb kogumik sel sajandil kirjutatud lugudest ja nende tonaalsus on kohati sünkmust. Ja kuigi pendel on liikunud teise serva, on mõtteliselt tegu ikkagi sama teemaga, mis „Me armastame Maad” kogumike puhulgi. Ka see kogumik lahkab sama küsimust: mis või kes on inimene? Kuidas me käitume, kuidas mõtleme?
Ma ei tea, kas asi on selles, et neile on juba 100 aastat lubatud helget tulevikku, mida ei tule ega tule, aga vene keeles kirjutavad autorid suudavad imeusutavalt luua masendavaid maailmu. Inimene ei ole neis teisele inimesele sõber, seltsimees ja vend, vaid paaria, kellest tasub eemale hoida nii liigikaaslastel kui tulnukatelgi. Tsiteerides Andrei Livadnõid, on selle kogumiku keskmes: „...inimesed – koletislikud, geniaalsed, julmad looduse loodud olevused, kes olid sellesama looduse üle võimu saanud, kuid ei kasuta seda võimu mitte kõige elava hüvanguks...”
